Design and simulation of turbogenerators for series hybrid electric vehicles

To reduce emissions and fuel consumption in the automotive world, researchers are looking for alternative energy converters series hybrid electric vehicle previous studies demonstrate that turbogenerator technologies promising candidates. This study presents a methodology design, modelization, dynamic simulation of different thermodynamic architectures to compare their performances, compute efficiencies select best candidate replace internal combustion engine taking into account startup phase, where inertia components affect performance machine. Therefore, four types configurations were thermodynamically investigated. Then an extensive work was conducted design turbomachines with high efficiencies, followed by procedure recuperators. Dynamic models turbogenerators developed simulated constant power start-up strategy data designed integrated models. Results show contain recuperator have phase characterized 70 s mainly caused thermal causes reduction about 3%. Moreover, intercooled regenerative reheated presented better than other highest rate temperature increase at inlet chamber resulting lowest consumption. Consequently, selected as it had performance, efficiency 37.9%, net specific 205 kJ/kg turbine 950 °C. The this paper could be applied reproduce new architectures, designs.
